Financial Consulting
Financial Advisor … Financial Planner … Financial Counselor … Daily Money Manager … Bookkeeper … there are so many different types of financial professionals that it’s difficult to determine which is the right choice for you.
In my experience, the average person just needs some answers to their financial questions and some guidance to help them along their personal financial journey. I would be honored to be that guide. I am a fee-only financial professional with a fiduciary responsibility only to you as I do not sell anything or receive any kind of commission from anyone. I work for you and only you, and for that you pay me an hourly rate billed by the quarter hour.
Some of my consulting may seem more like something you could call financial pastoral counseling. I guess that’s definitely different from what other financial professionals typically provide. But given how difficult financial matters can be sometimes, and the fact that financial issues are the leading cause of marital stress, maybe a priest with pastoral counseling experience and financial skills is a good idea.
Whether you want to call it counseling, coaching, or consulting, I am here to help you with your financial questions in a non-judgmental and pastorally supportive manner. Once you choose to engage my services, we will agree on a game plan and fee, and I will send you some forms that, when completed, will better enable me to assist you. We will then set up a time to talk by phone, online, or in my office, after which I will provide you with a write-up of what we discussed with my recommendations.

The Financial Experience Package
Maybe you’re thinking about buying a house, creating an emergency fund, planning a vacation, or just want to pay off your credit cards but can’t seem to find another dime to put toward your goals. Maybe you and your spouse/partner don’t often seem to be on the same page when it comes to financial matters. Maybe you worry that your values (Christian or otherwise) aren’t always reflected in your financial decisions, or maybe you think your values get in the way of making good financial decisions. I offer a package for a flat fee that is meant to help you understand what is behind your financial thinking, provide you with some financial literacy, help you build an understanding of the big picture of your family/household finances, and help you develop the skills you need to make changes in your overall financial well-being.
The program consists of 3 or 4 sessions of approximately 6 hours in total, held in person, online, or in conference calls, in which we’ll:
- Discuss your financial autobiography, those emotions and experiences that inform your financial decisions
- Discuss and analyze your long- and short-term goals
- Review and analyze your current net worth
- Develop a budget plan that addresses your goals
If you’ve never spoken with a financial counselor/advisor/planner, haven’t had discussions with your spouse/significant other regarding your perspective on money, don’t have clarity about your net worth, and/or don’t manage your household finances with a monthly budget, then this service is definitely for you.

Daily Money Management
When my great uncle passed away at the age of 88, our family discovered several years’ worth of invoices, statements and bills stuffed into the back of a desk drawer. He was always very good at managing his finances, so this came as a bit of a surprise. The reality is that sometimes we begin to lose focus and have difficulty with numbers as we age. We’re still able to understand and make decisions, but have some trouble with the details.
Maybe my uncle was worried about losing control of his finances or was concerned about what we would think if he admitted he was having difficulty. Whatever the reason, he failed to ask for assistance, and some of their financial matters became problems for my aunt after he passed away.

What my uncle needed was someone he could trust to sit with him periodically to ensure he wasn’t missing anything and that all the bills were being paid. The kind of assistance he needed, and what I am able to provide to you for an hourly fee, includes:
- Monthly bill payments, balancing checkbooks, & organizing bank records
- Review of statements and invoices for errors and suspicious activity
- Advocacy, advisement and assistance when meeting with financial service representatives such as
- A financial advisor or planner
- A mortgage broker or bank representative
- An account representative such as staff at Fidelity or Vanguard
- Negotiating with creditors
- Facilitation of family conversations about financial matters

“Ted illuminated for me aspects of my financial situation that I hadn’t been able to see clearly. I felt enormous relief regarding some of the bigger money issues that were causing me to feel anxious after Ted explained them to me in detail. Ted took the time to listen and really understand what I was looking for in my work with him, and offered several options. I am so grateful to Ted, and look forward to annual check-ins!“
